Community Activities

As you look forward to the many community activities taking place in October here in Wise County, there are several Extension events in particular that I encourage you to attend.
The first event is the National 4-H Week Fashion Show held at David’s Western Wear in Decatur. The annual fashion show is scheduled for Thursday night, October 11 at 6:00 pm and will feature Wise County 4-H’ers modeling those fine western duds from David’s.  Each year we have over 50 young men and ladies, strut their stuff in the presence of parents, relatives, friends, and visitors while celebrating National 4-H Week through this event.
The Greenwood Fall Festival sponsored by the Greenwood Extension Education Club is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  You’ll enjoy a parade beginning at 10:00 am and immediately following the parade, handcrafted arts and craft booths will be open.
For those unsure of finding Greenwood, it is a short, scenic drive out of Decatur on Highway 51 North for 10 miles to FM 1204, turn left and travel approximately five miles into the community of Greenwood.
Call today to reserve your spot for our Friend to Friend party which will be held Tuesday, October 16 at 6 pm at the newly opened Weatherford College-Wise County campus on highway 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport. The purpose of the event is so women can come and learn about breast and cervical cancer and screening services that are available in the area. There will be food, door prizes, and valuable information. Those who call to pre register and attend the event will be entered into a special door prize drawing.
And finally, the week will conclude on Friday, October 19 with Paint the Town Pink festivities on the square in Decatur. There will be special promotions, bake sales, silent auction and the pink line ceremony. All proceeds will benefit Mary’s Gift and Women’s Services at Wise Regional.
To obtain more information on any of the activities discussed, please telephone the Extension office at 940/627-3341.
