Cattle Sorting and Chute Management


There will be a cattle sorting and chute management program on Thursday, April 17th at Charlie Morrison’s Ranch.  Registration at 9:30 am, program is from 10:00 am to 12:00pm and lunch will be served at the conclusion of the program.

Dr.  Ron Gill, Professor and Extension Livestock Specialist, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will cover topics such as: pen sorting cattle and behavior traits in a cattle pen setting. He will also discuss proper working chute management when working cattle.  Participants will receive 2 hours of BQA (Beef Quality Assurance) credit for participating in the program.

The program is hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Wise County Livestock and Forage Committee. Lunch is sponsored by AGVANTAGE Farm and Ranch Supply, Decatur, Texas. 

Costs for the program will be $10 and to pre-register please call the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service at (940) 627-3341 or come by at 206 S. State Street in Decatur. 

Directions to Charlie Morrison’s pens are to take US Highway 287 South of Decatur, turn east on 2264, go one mile and turn left on 4221, go 1/8 of a mile, and continue across the cattle guard up to the cattle pens – Charlie Morrison’s Pens.
